Billy John Grant

Billy John Grant, age 85 of Sachse, TX, passed away on September 15, 2016 in Garland, TX. He was born on June 13, 1931 in Ladonia, TX to Wesley Clyde and Mary Emily (Hulsey) Grant. Billy served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and attained the rank of Sergeant before being discharged in Bonham, TX in September 1954. After his discharge from the service, he married Lena Vernell Davis at her home on November 25, 1954. Billy earned his Bachelor’s degree in business in 1957 and went on to become co-owner of an insurance agency.

Billy has lived in the Sachse area since 1974. During his time in the area, he served as City Councilman for Sachse and was a member of the Lion’s Club of Garland and Sachse. He was a member of the Duck Creek Lodge, Masonic Lodge #441, Scottish Rite and K.C.C.H. Billy was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sachse, and his favorite way to spend his free time was playing golf.

Surviving are his wife, Lena V. “Nell” Grant; sons, Billy John Grant, Jr. and wife, Kristi, Brian Grant and wife, Jenny; 9 grandchildren, Kyle Grant and wife, Shannon, Kimberly Wilson and husband, Matt, Wesley Grant, Hayden Grant, Landry Grant, McLain Ford and husband, Tanner, Ryan and Elliott Burkett and Brittney Petrovics; 4 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Lois Jean Grant; cousins, Jerri Sue Scribner and husband, Jeff and Kenny Ray Grant.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Mary Grant; brother, Jack Grant; brother-in-law, Robert Syl-Dean Davis; daughter-in-law, Jane E. Grant; and cousin, Morris Apple.Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Sunday, September 18, 2016 at Charles W. Smith and Sons Funeral Home in Sachse. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 19, 2016 at the First Baptist Church in Sachse, 2412 3rd St., Sachse, TX 75048, with Rev. Dickson Rial officiating. Interment will follow at Sachse Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ruben Pursell, Curtis Gilmore, Jeff Scribner, Robert Davis, Bart Davis and Tanner Ford. Honorary pallbearers will be Thurman Pittsinger, Robert Williams and C.M. Wyatt.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org. The family would also like to recognize and thank the staff at Grand Brook Memory Care of North Garland for the wonderful care they provided for Billy.
