Billy Roy Gilbreath, Jr. Born July 26, 1956, passed away peacefully at home on June 8, 2020 after battling cancer.
Billy was a lifelong learner earning degrees from Northwestern Oklahoma University, Amberton University, Kansas State University, and Texas A&M University-Commerce. He was an avid outdoorsman who was passionate about sharing his knowledge of fishing, hunting and all things environmental with his family and students. He volunteered with Rowlett Kid Fish and Texas Parks and Wildlife Youth Education Programs as a Certified Fishing and Hunting Instructor.
Billy was happiest showing his step daughter and nieces how to fish, taking his beloved Ian hunting, and spending time with his good friends Leon Walker, David Foster and Danny Foster at the lake. He counted down the days to the start of Big 12 Football and proudly yelled advice, direction, and praise to athletes and coaches while watching them on TV. Billy was a kind compassionate man, but he also had a wicked sense of humor. Remembering his pranks will always bring a smile to those of us who loved him.
He is survived by his wife Mary; stepdaughter Jessica Anderson; grandson Ian Conroy; sister and brother Tom and Fran Fitzharris; nieces Erin, Katie, Emily and Maggie; and many dear friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Texas Parks and Wildlife Youth Education Programs or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
