Betty Doris Weatherly

Betty Vaughn Weatherly, age 80, of Wylie, Texas went home to be with her heavenly father on April 10, 2020. She married the love of her life, Billy Vaughn, on May 24, 1958, who preceded her in death on October 8, 1997. Bill and Betty were graced with three daughters, seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Several years after Bill passed away, Betty met Don Weatherly, a wonderful Christian man. They married and were great companions for each other until his death in 2015. Betty would not want us to grieve her death but instead celebrate her life and rejoice, as we know she has entered the kingdom of heaven.
Betty was a beautiful, kind, compassionate Christian woman who devoted herself to her family and her Godly service. She was deeply loved by everyone who knew her. She lived a life for Christ and was the epitome of what it meant to be a Godly woman. She set an example for her daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren that will lead them all of their lives. Betty loved her Savior, the Lord Jesus, with all her heart and she loved God's Word. Though she was a humble, gentle woman, Betty was none the less a powerful prayer warrior. Only heaven knows what a wonderful and eternal impact all her many years of faithful praying have had on her family, her friends, and the world at large. She adored her First Assembly of God church family and served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. Her presence will forever be felt as they continue on with preaching the word of God and reaching people near and far.
Providing a Christian home to her three daughters, Vickie, Sheri, and Becky was of the utmost importance to Betty. She instilled in them a love for the Lord and taught them how to be servant leaders. It brought her great pride that all three of her daughters were educators and that all seven of her grandchildren graduated from college and are now serving others. Betty cherished every moment she got to spend with her family. Her great grandchildren thought she hung the moon. Time spent with Gigi was always special. They played games together, cooked together, and made crafts together. They all knew that Gigi's lap was the best place to be.
Betty was the oldest of eight children. She loved getting to travel and spend time with her sisters and brothers. It didn't matter if it was on a beach in Florida or in the mountains of Tennessee, she always considered it blessing when they could be together. The simplest things in life always made her happy. Whether it was bird watching, fishing, or simply playing a game of dominoes, if she was getting to spend time with family, she considered herself fortunate. Once their mother passed away, Linda, Don, Ronnie, Janie, Gloria, Steve, and Kathy admired Betty as the matriarch of the family. She continually prayed for each of them and their families.
Being fortunate enough to live the last 20 years across the street from her aunt Wanda brought Betty great pleasure. These two had a bond that was like no other. They laughed together and rejoiced during the good times and they cried together and comforted each other when one was hurting. A day didn't go by that they didn't check on each other.
Betty's hands were never idle. She sought to do good each day. She used her heart and her hands to bless others. The days before her passing she made over 70 masks that she mailed to family and friends. She made countless meals for individuals who were sick and served more green beans and banana pudding to families who were grieving than anyone can count. She possessed a true servant's heart and was a constant caregiver to others.
Betty will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Vickie Strayhorn and her husband Jessie of Caddo Mills, TX, and their three children, Justin (Jessica) Strayhorn, Jason (Cheryl) Strayhorn and Jana (Kyle) McKinney; Sheri Rodgers and her husband Jerry of Farmersville, TX, and their sons Travis Rodgers and Collin Rodgers; and Becky Kesler and her husband Jeff of Texarkana, AR and their sons Caleb (Courtney) Kesler and Caden Kesler, as well as seven adoring great grandchildren, Jesse, Judson, Axon, Steele, Paisley, Emory and Nora; sisters and brothers, Linda Caudill, Ronnie Davis, Don Davis, Janie Herrin-Breseman, Gloria Marine, Steve Armes, and Kathy Grossman. She will be missed greatly by Wanda Graem, Wanda Taylor, her Lavon Assembly of God Church family, and a host of devoted family and friends.
A celebration of Betty's life will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. at First Assembly of God in Lavon, Texas.
