Betty Lou Strickland

January 22, 1946 — May 9, 2017

Betty Strickland peacefully passed away on May 9, 2017 surrounded by her family. She was born January 22, 1946 to Albert and Vera Strickland in Wieland, Texas. She was a 1964 graduate of Community High School in Nevada, Texas. She began working for Lone Star Gas November 1964 to 1981 and then worked for Lone Star Credit Union (formerly known as Enserch Federal Credit Union) for 36 years until she retired.

Devoted to her faith she was an active member of First Baptist Church of Lavon. Hearts are broken by her passing, but we are comforted by her strong spirit and unquestioning faith. She was selfless in her kindness and deeds to others. She was a surrogate mother to all her nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and showered them with her love as if they were her own children. She had the biggest heart, the sweetest smile and a love for the late great Elvis Presley.

She is survived by her brothers and sisters: Thomas Strickland and wife Marian of Sulphur Springs, Texas, Kenneth Strickland and wife Tonya of Nevada, Texas, Barbara Gracy and husband James of Nevada, Texas, Beverly Woods and husband James of Wylie, Texas, Larry Strickland and wife Barbara of Josephine, Texas and sister-in-law Veeda Strickland of Royse City, Texas.

She is preceded in death by her parents Albert Elgin Strickland and Vera Lee Gray Strickland, brother Billy Albert Strickland and nephew Burl Albert Strickland.

Memorial services will be held @ First Baptist Church of Lavon 205 Main Street, Lavon, Texas , Saturday May 13, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. with a fellowship with family and friends to immediately follow the service.
