Betty Lou Daugherty

October 2, 1930 — February 22, 2020

Elizabeth Louise "Betty Lou" Daugherty, 89, of Sachse, TX, passed away surrounded by her loving family on February 22, 2020. She lived 40 years in Southern California and 25 years in Tucson, AZ.

Betty Lou was born on October 2, 1930, in Philadelphia, PA, to Arthur and Florence (Graham) Dacey. She was the youngest, and last surviving, of five children: Arthur, Jr. (died in infancy), Jeanne Dacey, Evelyn Jenner and Helen Elliott. She attended Ward-Belmont College, in Nashville, TN.

After WWII, Betty Lou followed her sister, Helen, to California, and found employment in a bank. She met her future husband, Richard (Dick) Daugherty, when her roommates, who were flight attendants, invited some Los Angeles Ram players to swim at their Hollywood, CA apartment. Dick was a starting guard for the 1951 World Champion L.A. Rams. But, at heart, Dick was a first-generation college grad (Oregon) from small town Ohio, and he was completely smitten. They married in 1953 and had four children.

Besides making a nice home for her family, Betty Lou was an avid golfer, playing into her 80s. Her favorite place to be was on the golf course. She won many golf trophies, but one of her proudest accomplishments was having three holes in one. Betty Lou loved to read, was dedicated to the NY Times cross-word puzzles, and she played bridge. She was active in her bible study and prayer groups. At the memory care facility, her friendly, outgoing personality showed with her four friends who like to laugh and giggle. They were referred to by staff as the "Golden Girls."

Betty Lou is survived by her four children: Lynne (David) Day, Vermillion, SD; Daniel (Debbie) Daugherty, Sachse, TX; Patty Fyfe, Thousand Oaks, CA; and Robert (Nancy) Daugherty, Rehoboth, DE; and her ten grandchildren: Marchelle (Dustin) Wilson, San Diego, CA; Daniel Day, Redwood City, CA; Elizabeth Day, Lansing, MI; Ryan Daugherty, Sachse, TX; Sarah Day, Grand Junction, CO; Matthew Daugherty, New York City, NY, Benjamin Daugherty, New York City, NY; David R. Day, Iowa City, IA; Douglas Fyfe, Jr., Phoenix, AZ and Jack Fyfe, Thousand Oaks, CA. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren: Jocelyn Wilson, Cason Wilson and Knox Wilson, and nieces Cheryl (Elliott) Sheahan and Laurie (Elliott) Franz.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, all of her siblings, and her grandson Nathan D. Daugherty.

Betty Lou's family and friends appreciate the loving care our brother and sister-in-law, Dan & Debbie, provided to her these past five years.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. For those wishing to honor her life, in lieu of flowers, please give to a charity or a church of your choice.
