Betty Lyn Carpenter

August 24, 1932 — July 15, 2019

Betty Lyn Carpenter passed away on July 15, 2019. She is survived by brother Ben Dulin, husband Bill Carpenter Sr., son and daughter-in-law Bill Carpenter Jr. and Anna Laura Weygand, son and daughter-in-law Tom Carpenter and Marina King, grandchildren Zoe Carpenter and Sam Carpenter, niece Ellycia Knauber and beloved dog Morie.

Born in Sumrall, MS on August 24, 1932, she was raised in Petal, MS with her three siblings. Betty was a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi and later attended school in Chicago, IL to become a flight attendant for American Airlines. She met her husband Bill while cheerleading at a high school football game where Bill was in attendance with his sister Katherine. Betty & Bill were married on December 18, 1953 in Mississippi and moved to Norfolk, VA while Bill was in the Navy.

After Bill retired from the Navy, Betty & Bill moved to Dallas, TX. While living in Dallas, Betty had sons Bill Jr. and Tom. When Bill began working for Procter & Gamble, they made the move to Cincinnati, OH. There, Betty spent much of her time chairing events for different organizations. Always a giving person, she was willing to give her time and energies to causes she felt strongly about. She also enjoyed many hobbies and spending time with friends that included playing tennis, bridge, attending the symphony, Cincinnati Reds baseball games and reading all types of books.

In 1977, Betty & Bill made the move back to Richardson, TX to be closer to her brother Ben and sister-in-law Olive. Having lived in the same neighborhood since their return to the Dallas area, she was able to get to know her neighbors very well and call so many of them friends. The times spent with those friends from block parties, holiday parties and weekly dinners were always very special to her.

Hot Springs, AR became a favorite place for Betty & Bill to spend time. With a condo they visited once a year, usually with family and friends, they enjoyed their time with walks on the garden trails, trips to one of the local rock shops, reading on the deck over-looking the lake and cooking the fish caught on Bill's many fishing trips.

A very caring and giving person, Betty was someone who was always willing to lend a hand, cook a meal and make sure everyone had what they needed.
With family being so important to her, she was the glue that kept everyone together. From planning holiday meals to functions during the year, she brought us all closer together.

She will be very missed by everyone who knew her.
