Barbara Frances Risner Nolen, 81, of Rowlett, Texas passed away on February 9th , 2022, after a long battle with multiple illnesses.
Barbara, "Nanny" to many, was born on March 25th, 1940, to Marvin and Wanda Risner in Galveston, Texas. In her teens, she moved to the Dallas area and graduated from South Oak Cliff High School in January of 1958.
In High School, she met Charles Nolen and they were married in February of 1958. They moved to Grand Prairie to raise their 2 children. (Chuck) Charles Edwin Nolen Jr of Grand Prairie, TX, and (Bobbie) Barbara Ann Douglass of Rowlett, TX.
Barbara dedicated her life to being a strong and supportive mother. Later in life that expanded to being a fantastic grandmother and great-grandmother. She was the type that was also the "Nanny" to several in the neighborhood. She made it her mission to be involved and improve the lives of everyone she touched.
Barbara was all about being involved in her children's lives. She dedicated 15 years to the Red Cross water safety instructions, several years to school activities and PTA, was a Den Mother and Girl Scout Leader. She had a passion for needle work and when she wasn't filling the neighborhood with warmth and kindness, she could be found working diligently on her latest project. Whether it was clothing, cheer uniforms, baby outfits or the latest quilt, she put love in
every stitch. We will miss her greatly.
Outside the home, she worked at Texas State Optical Laboratories, was a meat processor for Woody's Meats and managed a deer processing crew when in season. She also enjoyed working admissions at Lone Star Park and was on the board at Lakeside Baptist Church.
Barbara was preceded in death by both her parents, Marvin Milton Risner and Wanda Lawson Risner. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, 2 children, 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
