Barbara Jean Justiss Abbott passed away peacefully in her home in Josephine, Texas on Sunday May 19, 2024. She was born March 1st, 1939 in Lavon, Texas to parents Helen and Jelly Justiss. She was raised in a loving Christian home with brother Randy and sister Cinda. She graduated from Community High School in 1957 and remained close with her school classmates all these years. On March 14,1958 she married the love of her life, Bobby Don Abbott, and they recently celebrated 66 years of marriage. They made their home in Josephine, Texas and spent the last 6 years living on South Padre Island. She loved to travel and was open to adventures to see new places, but she was happiest when she was at home. She loved making her home a warm and welcoming place for everyone. Her greatest joy was being Bobby's wife and a mother to her 4 children, 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Barbara was known by many names: wife, mother, mother- in- law, mamaw, nene, aunt, sister, classmate, friend, cousin, and neighbor. She never had to tell you about her faith in God because her life was a walking testimony. If you were around her for very long, you knew she was something special. She had a radiant smile and joy in her heart. She had strength and a peace about her that came from a lifetime of trusting and loving Jesus. She was a member of the First Baptist Church Josephine.
Barbara is survived by husband Bobby Abbott, Greg and Lori Abbott of Josephine, Bart and Kim Abbott of South Pardre Island, Clay and Brigitte Barkley of Josephine, 10 Grandchildren: Blake, Ryan, Heather, JC, Blair, Garrett, Madeline, Blaze, Kimbra, William and 16 great grandchildren. Family members Cinda and Paul Dundas, Virgina Justiss, Jim and Annagene Murray, Charles and Mary Helen Kirby. Two that she loved like her own, Larry Aaron and Kim Megee, plus numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Jelly Justiss, In-laws JC and Gracie Abbott. Daughter Tammy Walker, son-in- law David Walker, granddaughter Victoria Walker, great granddaughter Ayla Barkley. Brother Randy Justiss, niece Amy Justiss, brother-in- law Larry Abbott, sister in-law Joy Copeland, and special family member Wille Gee Orr.
The visitation will be Tuesday May 21st at Charles Smith Funeral home in Lavon from 5:00-7:00.
The service will be held Wednesday May 22nd at 10:00 am at the Frist Baptist Church of Josephine.
