Ayub R Sandhu

September 5, 1944 — December 31, 2021

Ayub R. Sandhu, PE, RPLS was born on September 5, 1944 in Gujranwala, Pakistan. He was raised in a household with 6 other siblings, of which he was the oldest.

He graduated from Iqbal High School, then earned his B.S. degree in Math and Physics from Gordon College in Rawalpindi. After graduating, he worked as an engineer designing United Christian Hospital in Lahore. He worked on this project with a US-based engineer name Lee Young, who helped him journey to the United States to pursue his dreams in the great State of Texas.

Ayub graduated from Southern Methodist University in Dallas in 1972 with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. He worked at RLG Consulting Engineers for 15 years, climbing his way to serving as an Associate/Partner. However, his real dream was to start his own firm and help build the local community he called home for so many years.

In 1985, Ayub's dream was realized: ARS Engineers, Inc. was born. He faithfully served the company for 37 years and helped it become a staple in the local industry. The company's success allowed Ayub to fulfill his vision of building the future: helping his community through designing infrastructure, mentoring young professionals, and volunteering time and efforts for those in need.

Ayub was also very involved in professional organizations throughout the State of Texas. He served as President of the following professional organizations:

Texas Society of Professional Surveyors (TSPS) Dallas Chapter - 1985
Minority Design Professional Council (MDPC) - 1986 and 1990
Texas Society of Professional Engineers (TSPE) Dallas Chapter - 1988
American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Dallas Branch - 1992
Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) Dallas Post – 1996

His awards, recognitions, and honors include:

TSPE Dallas Chapter JS Hudnall Award for Greatest Numerical Membership Increase
Small Business Administration (SBA) Minority Small Business Person of the Year Award
Kiwanis International Outstanding Support Award
ASCE Texas Section's Professional Services Award for Meritorious Service
ASCE Dallas Branch Distinguished Service and Professional Contribution Award
ASCE Dallas Branch Engineer of the Year Award
ACEC Dallas Leadership Award for Outstanding Service as Secretary
ACEC Dallas Leadership Award for Outstanding Service as Chairman of Government Client Affairs Committee
CEC Eminent Conceptor Award - Dallas "High Five" IH635/US 75 Interchange Project

On July 1, 2021, Ayub officially passed down the torch of the company to his son Marc. Marc has been working at ARS since 2009, and now serves as its President.

Ayub was married to the love of his life, Cynthia, for over 37 years. He is survived by Cynthia, son Marc, daughter-in-law Jessica, grandson Daniel, granddaughter Emily, brother-in-law Sylvester, sisters Salma, Sylvia, and Cecilia, and many nieces and nephews.

Ayub was a very devout follower of Jesus, always striving to love God with all his heart, mind, and strength, and love his neighbor as himself. He attended First Baptist Dallas for many years after arriving in Texas and was deeply involved in the singles ministry. After getting married and settling in DeSoto in the mid-1980s, he became an active member of Faith Bible Church for 29 years. After moving to Plano, he and Cynthia attended United Christian Church in Garland.

We can all take comfort in the fact that he is now celebrating in God's presence.
