Arthur Berri Williams

October 9, 1924 — July 6, 2012

Arthur Berri Williams, 87 of Dallas/Mesquite, passed away peacefully at home on
July 6, 2012. He was born in Oklahoma City on October 9, 1924 to Clare
LaVere and Myrtle Moser Williams.

Art graduated from Central HS and Oklahoma University. He was a member of Phi Kappa Sigma - like his father and eldest son. Art served in World War II, in the 671st Tank Destroyer Battalion and was recently selected for a DFW Honor Flight visit to the WWII Memorial and chosen to place a wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Though unassuming, Art was successful in life through the strength of his character, relationships and generosity. Survived by his wife of more than 64 years, Betty Calvert, and his sister LaVere Bishop, Art leaves a legacy of love he never stopped nurturing, a tradition carried on by his three children, Kenneth, Carol and Curt and their spouses Theresa, Fred Clowe, and Cindy. He further inspired the lives, character and love of six grandchildren and five great
grandchildren. Art was always up early so he didn’t miss anything, watched the news, and loved peanuts with his ice cream. He treasured his time in Port Aransas - a family tradition for over 70 years.

Art was a salesman for Champion Paper Company for 35 years. He was a 57-year Master Mason and a member of the Dallas Roy Stanley Lodge No. 1367. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies of Dallas and was a performing member of the Hella Temple Shrine Drum and Bugle Corp, Rolling Nobles and Royal Order of Jesters. He was a member of Lakeview Christian Church and later Eastridge Park Christian Church. He and Betty were volunteers for the State Fair of Texas Torchlight Parade for 35 years, driving floats and managing crowd control.

Visitation will be on Friday, July 13th at 9:00 am, followed by a
service at 10:00 am. These will be held at the Charles W. Smith and
Sons Funeral Home, 2925 5th Street, in Sachse, TX 75048, 972-414-5050. Brother Dan Carroll will be officiating the celebration of Art Williams’ life.

Following the service, the interment will be at Dallas-Ft. Worth
National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX 75211,
at 1:15 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the
Scottish Rite Hospital or the charity of your choice.
