Buddy "Arthur Laverne" Franklin, age 87, passed away on March 15, 2024. He was born on June 27, 1936, in Paynes, Mississippi. Buddy, as he was known to many, had a rich and fulfilling life that touched the hearts of all who knew him.
Buddy grew up in the foothills of Mississippi, surrounded by a large and loving family. He proudly served in the Air Force during the Korean War, where he was part of the military police. After his military service, Buddy pursued a career as a truck driver, working for Oroweat and Mrs. Baird’s bread until his retirement in 2000.
A man of many passions, Buddy's love for racing led him to own race cars at Super Bowl Speedway in Greenville, TX, and travel to various tracks for competitions. He also cherished his time with horses and enjoyed singing, music, and dancing. His road runner held a special place in his heart.
Buddy was a devoted husband to the love of his life, Barbara Ann (Bobbie) Franklin, for 41 years. He was a loving and firm father to his four children: JR Franklin, Becky Drake (Mark), Larry Franklin (Aaron), and Jack Franklin (Emilie). His grandchildren, Justin (Brandi), Nickie (Jonathan), Tiffiany (Jordan), Eric (Annie), and Jessica, along with his great-grandchildren, Preslee, Shelby, Landon, Camden, and Hayden, brought immense joy to his life.
Buddy is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bobbie Franklin, his parents, Jack and Inez Franklin, his sister, Marie Porter, his brother, S.M. Franklin, and his grandson, David Hollis. He is survived by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and close in-laws.
Buddy's strong faith led him to worship at the Baptist church.
