Arlene Sudie Taylor

October 30, 1940 — February 1, 2025

Garland

Arlene Sudie Perdue Taylor passed away at 84 of natural causes, on the evening of February 1, 2025. And by natural, I mean naturally Jesus wanted to chat with her in person, after all this time stuck just talking over long-distance. (See, they were really good friends.)

“Sudie? I didn’t know that was part of her name!” No, but if you knew her at all–or were one of the thousands of strangers she befriended at any time when she left home–she knew your name, and probably a few more things about ya, too.

If you had the blessing of knowing her a tad longer than someone who had just met her, you may be a friend from church, from having met her through children’s ministry, or from working at Family Medicine, or from Bible study or Bunco or the neighborhood. You may also know her as the companion to her adoring surviving husband of 60 years, Terry. (What a cute pair!) Perhaps even through her sister, Eulalie Hartman–her equally vivacious “twin of a year and a half apart.”

You might know her as Todd (Toto) or Greg’s, or their spouses Sam and Denay’s sweet and spunky Mom. You may even know her through one of her grandkids, like Shelby, Logan, Chloe, Mattie, Nolan, AJ, Seth, Emma or Mandy. That wouldn’t surprise me a bit. She had a big heart for kiddos–and close to their size and energy, too!

I’m pretty sure there’s not an in-law or niece or nephew either who doesn’t have stories about her to make you smile. We all do! Except for the three or four strangers left in this world she didn’t quite get the chance to yet meet.

Arlene, you have made everyone’s day a little better, time and time again. Memories of you will pick up where ya left off. Don’t worry about that, even though we will miss you, too.

In lieu of a regular service, the family wishes to grieve and heal on their own. If you feel led to honor her, take a moment and reflect on what you can donate to a local food or clothing outreach. Friendship House in Downtown Garland was one of her faves. Or we highly recommend doing something intentionally: Find a stranger to give a smile, some encouragement, and learn their name.

One last thing. Please know that Arlene would want you to know, right now, how truly special you are, and how happy she is to have known you.
