Andrew Louis (Andy) Whitlow, age 87, of McKinney, TX passed away Sunday, June 28, 2015 at Medical Center of McKinney. Andrew was born May 13, 1928 in Pilot Point, TX to Tucker S. and Priscilla Whitlow. He was raised in Sherman, TX, where he also graduated from Fred Douglas High School. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and also attended Texas Southern University.
He married Minnie Varice Avery on September 13, 1960. He was employed by International Paper Company in Carrollton, TX as a Crane Operator. He received 2 Meritorious Service Awards, a Corrugator Outstanding Improvement Award and an Outstanding Service Award for 26 years of faithful service, retiring in 1990. After retiring, he went on to work at Target in Plano, TX as a Customer Service Representative until retiring again in 2003 due to his health. He enjoyed singing, reading the Bible and playing with his great-grandchildren. He was a faithful Steward and choir member of the St. James C.M.E. Church.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Minnie Whitlow of McKinney, 2 daughters Vickie S. Whitlow of Oceanside, CA, Andrea C. Whitlow of McKinney, 4 grandsons Vincente L. Maxwell, II, Kenton E. Maxwell and wife Ashley, Desmond T. Whitlow, all of McKinney and Zachary S. Whitlow of Marshall, TX, 2 great-granddaughters Kiara S. Maxwell and Alexis C. Maxwell, 1 great-grandson Lydon J. Maxwell, all of McKinney and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother James N. Whitlow, sister Priscilla E. Johnson and best friends for life Floyd S. Rowe, Sr. and Emory Perry, Jr.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 2, 2015, 6:00pm-8:00pm at Charles W. Smith Funeral Home, 601 S. Tennessee Street, McKinney, TX. Celebration of life will be Friday, July 3, 2015, 11:00am at St. James C.M.E. Church, 316 Watt Street, McKinney, TX, with Dr. Gregory Voss, Officiant and Rev. Winston F. Douglas, Sr., Eulogist and host Pastor.
Interment will be at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, TX.
