Alton Melvin Lake

April 10, 1943 — January 23, 2015

Alton "Al" Melvin Lake went home to be with our Lord and Savior January 23, 2015 at the age of 71.

He was a resident of Wylie, TX for the last 15 years. He was born to Alton Parker Lake and Velma Deane Wilkerson Lake on April 10, 1943 in Big Springs, Texas.

Siblings are sister, Yvonne Blewett and husband Larry of Jefferson, TX., sister Linda Jackson of Elk City, Ok., brother Louis Dewayne Mortellaro of Winnsboro, TX. and deceased brother Leland Lake who along with their mother and father are reunited in heaven.

Al attended school at Jefferson Academy where he met and married his high school sweetheart, his children's mother, Beulah Cutting Lake Nelson and they had 3 children. Son Brian Keith Lake lived just three short days. Daughter Patricia Voyles with husband Michael of Malakoff, TX and their 4 boys, Jared Voyles with Jade of Garland, TX., Justin Lake with wife Bekah of Athens, TX. Tyler Jones of Malakoff, TX. and Jadon Voyles of Malakoff, TX. 3 great grandchildren Sabriel and Aria Lake and Skylar Voyles. Daughter Kristina Bell with husband Alex and their 3 children son Adam, daughters Victoria and Payton Bell of Sachse, Texas.

Al loved the Lord and his country, he served in the United States Coast Guard, was raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason of the Masonic Lodge 928 in Mesquite on March 12 of 1979 and was disability retired from the United States Postal Service. In his earlier years he coached softball, loved bowling, fishing, boating, he also enjoyed coin and stamp collecting and gold prospecting.

Services will be held at Jefferson Academy Church 3000 FM 728 Jefferson, Tx 75657 at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday February 15, 2015. A meal will be served before the service at 11:30 a.m. Then Al will be laid to rest at the Berea Cemetery in Jefferson, TX.

Written in his Bible, given to him by his father, was his name and date of birth as well as Psalm 121 which reads:
1 I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.
2 My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.
3 He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.
4 Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand.
6 The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.
7 The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.
8 The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.
