Alta Stewart Jones

Alta Stewart Jones, age 93 of Sachse, TX, passed away on March 18, 2017 in Wylie, TX. She was born on January 22, 1924 in Rochester, TX to William Alonzo and Ada Jane (Teague) Brothers. Alta married Gerald Jervis “G.J” Stewart in 1944, and he preceded her in death on December 2, 1986. She married Weldon Jones in 1988, and he preceded her in death in 1995. Alta worked as a cafeteria manager for the school systems for many years and was a member of the Baptist faith.

Alta had many hobbies that included quilting, making jewelry, playing cards and dominoes, and reading, and she made the best biscuits you’ve ever tasted. She enjoyed listening to the Gaither’s music and visiting the Sachse Senior Center to spend time with her friends. Alta will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Surviving her from her marriage to G.J. Stewart are her two sons, Fred Stewart and wife, Diana, and Earl Stewart; two granddaughters, Shelly Furr, and Angela Duron and husband, Tony; one grandson, Chris Boatman and wife, Shelby; two great-granddaughters, Sage Stubbs and Isabella Duron. Surviving her from her marriage to Weldon Jones are two step-sons, Ricky Jones and family, and Gary Jones and family; and one step-daughter, Betty Mayes and family. Alta was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, G.J. Stewart and Weldon Jones; and four brothers, Ambryce, O’Dell, Bill, and Arlis.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at Charles W. Smith & Sons Funeral Home in Sachse. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Charles W. Smith & Sons Chapel in Sachse. Interment will follow at Restland Cemetery in Olney, TX.
