Alera Corine Welch, 89, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Jan. 13, 2019.
Alera was born in Henderson, Texas, on July 1, 1929, to Albion and Dora Jackson Welch. She lived and worked on the family's East Texas farm until the mid-1980's, when she moved to the Dallas area to join her sister, Elsie Johnson. Together, the sisters shared many wonderful years filled with travel, church and community activities. Alera had a warm and cheerful heart, she loved her dogs, and she was an amazing cook.
Since 2017, Alera has lived at the Sunset Home in Clifton, Texas, where she enjoyed many friendships and fulfilling activities.
Visitation will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, with a celebration of Alera's life to follow at noon, both at Charles W. Smith & Sons Funeral Home in Sachse. The Rev. Eric Hogue will officiate. Burial will be at Grove Hill Memorial Park in Dallas.
Alera is survived by her sister, Elsie Johnson of Clifton; her brother, Clifton Welch of Cedar Hill, and his wife, Mondell; nephew James Campbell of Clifton, and his wife, Elisa; and many more nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Albion and Dora Welch; and her siblings, Mary Lois Johnson, Byron Welch, Mildred Cannon, Jarvis Welch, Floyd Welch, and Patsy Williams.
Pallbearers are Danny Cannon, Dale Welch, Wayne Welch, Pepper Hastings, Chris Welch, and Drew Hastings. Robert Williams serves as honorary pallbearer.
