Robby was an ordnance officer assigned to Company B, 201st Brigade Support Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Task Force Duke.
Robby graduated from UT-Arlington in 2008 with a degree in military science and was commissioned as a second lieutenant.
Among his awards were the Army Achievement Medal, as well as the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the NATO Medal and the Combat Action Badge,whichwere awarded posthumously.
In Robby’s hometown of Wylie, Texas, he played football, participated in Junior ROTC and served as a leader in his church youth group. He graduated from Wylie High Schoolin 2003.
Wylie is where Robby met his wife, Becky. They have a 20 month old son,Robert Welch IV and have custody of nephew Aaden Vann.
Robis survived by his wife Becky (Brill) Welch,son Robert Welch IV, nephew Aaden Vann, parents Robert II and Barbara Welch, sister Jane Welch and grandmother Margarete Westenburg.
Visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m.on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at Central ChristianChurch, 1651 Campbell Rd, Richardson, Texas 75082.
Funeral Service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at Central ChristianChurch, 1651 Campbell Rd, Richardson, TX (972) 231-7060.
Lt. Welch will be intered with full Military Honorsat D/FW National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13, 2011.
In lieu of flowers a trust fund has been set up for Lt Welch's sons, Robby and Aaden. Memorials may be made payable to Rebecca Welch and sent to Lori Legg, 111 Lee Court, Fort Knox, KY 40121
